Southwark Children’s Brass Band is a Charity run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. We receive no direct government or council funding. Organisations that have provided us with donations and grants are listed on our sponsors page.
What we do
Southwark Children’s Brass Band provides weekly group based music training in brass instruments for around 50 children, ages 7 to 16, from the London Borough of Southwark, and the wider area, from all backgrounds. We encourage children to enjoy the challenges of making music, by learning on their own as well as learning and playing as a group, giving them self esteem, self discipline and confidence that will be with them for the rest of their lives.
How to join
We rehearse every week during term-time at Rye Oak Primary School, in Peckham, South London from 9:30am – 11:30am.
If you are interested in joining, send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s our welcome pack which you should read and complete:
Southwark Children’s Brass Band has grown from the work of the Southwark Children’s Foundation charity, which was established in 1978 to give underprivileged children the opportunity to experience art, music and culture. The original band first formed in 1997 as “Southwark Children’s Foundation Saturday Morning Primary Brass Band”. Following closure of the original charity, the Southwark Children’s Brass Band was re-launched as a charity in its own right in September 2010. As of September 2017, the band will be 20 years old!
